Brahminy Kite (Haliastur indus) calling, Malinao, Aklan, Philippines, Jan 2007

This bird used to be a captive bird. It was being exhibited during a festival when it escaped. It is now circling the town proper of Malinao, Aklan as it is where it escaped. Originally, it lived up in the mountains in a far flung barrio. They were hoping that it would fly back to its original home BUT it escaped in the vicinity of the town square (plaza), so now it is making the town plaza its home.

Hello Ken,
I am a huge fan of birds; their expressions, habits and colours all unique and special. Birds of prey are some of the most finely adapted creatures in the world. The calarity, closeness ans sharpness of this image show in great detail what makes these birds so special. We are fortunate enough to have large numbers of these birds in Australia, I see them hunting for fish over coaster rivers often. I love the call of this bird, instantly recognisable! I am glad that the bird is now free to fly, and I hope that he is not recaptured. Well done on this fine quality photo.
