Bangaan, Banaue, Ifugao

This is the village of Bangaan in the middle of the rice terraces in Ifugao province, Northern Philippines.

The rice terraces of the Philippines is a 3,000 year old technology that is still being practiced up to the present moment. Terracing of rice fields are found all over Asia - in China, Indonesia, Iran etc. - but what is different with the Rice Terraces of the Philippine Cordilleras is that they can be as over 1,000 meters above sea level and that they sometimes stretch for miles and miles.

The Philippine mountain tribe that practices this technology is collectively called 'Igorots' who are the indigenous people of the mountainous region of the Cordilleras. The rice terraces are mainly in the Mt. Province, Benguet (where much are now transformed to vegetable terraces), Ifugao and in neighboring provinces of Kalinga, Apayao, Nueva Vizcaya, La Union and Abra.

Hello Ken,the village looks like a miniature set against the rice fields.Your note is very interesting; isn't it amazing that no-one has come up with any better alternative for growing rice?
Your scene is sharp and the colour is good.
Were you very high up to take this shot?

Hi Ken,
It is a shame they allowed residential dwellings in the middle of the rice terraces ... it pollutes the scene visually. But on the other hand if they own the place, then they have all the right to develop it the way they like. Very well composed and the very good color quality. TFS

This is a beautiful composition, with rich details in the vegetation!
A much photographed famous place, but I think you found a good angle to add your own touch...
Pleasant foreground interest to create a feeling of depth, great natural colours!

A so lovely village in the middle of rice terrace. I like this picture. A beautiful composition with nice greens.
