In my last stay in the Philippines, I went to Payatas, the place where the largest dumpsite in Metro Manila. Like Pied Piper, I was trailed by children. They wanted to have me take their picture. I told them I will provided they give me a "something-new" pose. This girl ran behind the red curtain. Something new...well, not for me. But I couldn't refuse such a disarming smile and a beautiful face.

I look your very interesting yesterday picture (girl with cat), in this picture is maybe same girl but hair looks like mirrored?
Good light again, inside red rose frames. Normally we put more free space to the look side, but in this case no matter, so fine picture.
In that age, no worrying about missing tooth.

Well, this kind of portraits are portraits filling the lack of something in other portraits, which means it is PERFECT!
The red colours so dominant, the white teeth shining and the missing tooth charastiristic.
arjun_das (1851) 2006-09-18 11:59

Wonderful Picture Manuel,
I feel, this is more like Art than a Photograph. The curtain looks wonderful and so the is the timing.
jsec (2122) 2006-09-18 13:19
As usual a great image. I would like to know if you use flash because although it is not mentioned in your info, I think it would be difficult to get the results you post without it.

Un beau shot pour ce portrait très coloré. Quel dommage que ce sourire soit gâché par de si mauvaises dent... Encore une fois les couleurs sont superbes ! Merci.

I like Your photos.
I am inspired by the neutral colors by most of Your photos. Do you work on the colors in the Photoshop, or are this colors original by the D200?

I have been watching your photos for quite a while now. I can only say, you are the King of portrait capturers. And of course you have a great sense about how to use colors(specially dark) within the frame. And thats why you are one of my favourites.

Good evening, Manuel:
Are you back in Thailand now, or still at home?
Today, we learned on the news that typhoon Xangsane struck the central Philippines, leaving nearly 2,500 ferry passengers stranded as gusts of up to 150 km (94 miles) per hour kept boats in harbour.
I pray that all Philippino TE members and everyone there be safe. God bless you.

This is indeed a very lovely photo. The colors and the girl's expression makes the photo almost perfect. Perhaps, a shoot of full body or halve would give clearer view and wider room for audience to 'participate' with the object. However, this is very very good already.

Excellent shot, I like the beautiful smile you captured here, I always think a child's laughter is a good medicine for the grown-up... nothing can compare with that, here you have captured her expression sooooo well.

Prisley (1483) 2008-01-06 12:02
Somptuous! I love that red all over her face. Great contrast of textures (soft peel and crumpled curtain) and wonderful light on her face. More than the smile, her eyes are full of joy! So pleasent!!
TFS and happy new year!
