Photographer’s Note
bilimbi (kamias in pilipino) is also known as cucumber tree.
kingdom : plantae
division : magnoliophyta
class : magnoliopsida
order : oxalidasea
family : oxalidaceae
genus : averrhoa
species : averrhoa bilimbi
bilimbi is a close relative to carambola (starfruit or balimbing in pilipino), originated seeminly from the moluccas. the specie is cultivated or found semi-wild, throughout indonesia, the philippines, sri lanka, bangladesh, india and myannmar. it is common in all southeast asian countries. in india, where it is usually found in gardens, the balimbi has gone wild in the warmest region of the country. it was introduced to queensland in the 19th century and has been commercialized in the region since then.
too sour to be eaten raw, the uncooked balimbi is prepared as relish. in the far east where it originated, it is sometimes added to curry. (in the philippines it is added to dishes like sinigang and pangat and has been reported to have a sweet variety).

Hi Benedict,
I think I know this one too here in Suriname, but couldn't yet taste. Very nice view and clear, sharp photograph. It's more valuable with your very informative note. Congratulations.

Hi Benedict, this is a great addition to the theme that I love of close-ups of fruit and vegetables. I like the abstract result and the effect of repetition and it's interesting to know about diferent and strange fruits and vegetables from all over the world. The quality of this one is excellent, with a clear and sharp image, good management of colors and attractive colors. Very well done!
Best regards,
Ricardo

Hello Benedict,
yummie...I first thaught them to be bananas, but they aren`t! To say the truth: I never saw this fruit (or vegetable?) in my life before.
Thank you for sharing this picture with us. Without this photo I probably would never have seen that fruit. Colours are great, and sharpness, too. I also like the frame: it is a pretty cool special-effect :)

Bonjour Benedict,
Même si ton image ne nous décrit pas vraiment le lieu ou tu étais, je l'aime beaucoup. Les couleurs sont vives, la netteté est très bonne et j'aime bien ton cadre. Bon travail !

hi, benedict. i like this greenish portrait of bilimbi. nice composition and the white internal frame provides a nice contrast. not sure thought about it being so deep into your composition. i guess, i would have reduced the frame area a bit.
