Ifugao Hut
 |
|
| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
The exterior walls of this Ifugao Hut in Hiwang are decorated with a carabao skull and the owner's shield.
You have to get close to the hut to photograph these decorations as they are normally obscured by the nipa palm thatching.
The hut sits on four legs a couple meters off the ground. It is used for sleeping only, as food preparation, eating, socializing and working are all done either under the hut or in communal shelters nearby. School children typically do their homework sitting at tables set by the hut.
The open entrance to the hut is reached by a small ladder, often ornately carved. A carved stone god will either hang on the wall by the entrance or sit on the ground nearby.
The owner will have a spear to go with his shield. These are typically used nowadays in various festivals and dances and just to keep up tradition.
The mighty rice terraces built by the Ifugao 2000 years ago are all around this area, but it is not a convenient walk. All these dwellings are built on steep mountains. Children often walk on steep up and down mountain trails for several kilometers to school. It is quite humbling as you drag yourself up these mountains, tongue hanging to the ground, to be passed by some 80 year old guy sprinting up the trail as if heat, altitude, and vertigo were nothing to him.
The lower right hand corner was burned almost white. I have toned it down some and applied mild sharpening. |

I wonder why this photograph has yet to receive any critiques given the fact that it has been well composed. The note is very informative too. TFS

Well seen and well captured. Like very much the composition and natural colouring and patterns. Interesting note. Greetings T.
