Boracay Fire Dancer Photo

Photographer’s Note

Now I'm jumping back to my not so old Boracay pics. There were frequent power failures in Boracay Island but this guy kept dancing with his fire lamps. I guess, taking photos starts when the lights go out.

I've seen some longer exposures here TE, but it already looks too abstact to me if I made a longer shutter like 5 sec.

I increased shadows to show some of the crowd. Used despeckle and dust and scratches to remove some of the noise. I have yet to try Neat Image.

These goddamn people with their fire things really get up my neck, as soon as I see them setting up I head off to find a quieter, more relaxed, less self-centred part of the beach to enjoy my beer on.

That said, your photo is excellent. A little noisy, but doesn't really distract from the overall shot, in fact adds a bit of feel to it.

I love this shot. The face of the fire twirler eerily shows his concentration. Wonderful!

They call this thing (apparatus) "Poy". The guy in the image makes this himself. He sells a safer version of "Poy" and even offer lessons on how to used it. My sister bought one (US$30) and its not easy to use as it looks! You have to focus and concentrate...the movements in it are highly rhythmic and dance-like...similar to martial arts like Arnis, you can develop mental, emotional and spiritual qualities ...oh well

The concept came from a tagalog (Philippines) word "Apoy" that means fire...so i guess thats what it is.

I guess Philip isn't much into this I emphatize with you, why spoil a good beer with this! Did you also notice annoying "bands" playing too loud near this area? Headbangers LOL
