Photographer’s Note
This is an helicopter view of the center of the "Crater Lake" in the Taal Lake.
Taal Lake is located about 60 km southeast of Manila, the capital of the Philippines, on the capital island Luzon.
Taal volcano is a 5 km diameter island located 60 km south of Manila, situated in a 20 km diameter caldera filled by a lake. Its last eruption occurred in 1977 and its history is composed of several deadly eruptions. Thirty three eruptions have been recorded since 1572 at Taal.
The Taal Volcano itself has a lake of its own inside its crater called "Crater Lake". One can even swim inside the Crater Lake but the lake's water is a very diluted form of sulfuric acid with high concentration of boron, magnesium, aluminum and sodium in salt form. Its mean depth measures 20 m. In its dark water is no life of fish possible.
Original is a Kodachrome 64 slide, scanned using a Nikon Coolscan.

Hello Detay,
I've been to the areas around Taal many times... but this is the first time that i actually saw the crater up close.
You were pretty lucky to have viewed this awesome volcano.
Thanks for sharing!

Hi Michel, a great composition using the fisheye to get the fullview of the crater but its somehow disorienting since we have a pretty much distorted image...I'm lost... but when I see that 'island in the lake, this one should be from the SW of the crater center. Actually theres nothing wrong with it except for the slight speckling. The frame of the chopper just tells the viewer from where it was taken which I thought was from one of the crater ridges. Colors are really great and the viewing the ridges of the caldera at the background. =) so here's 2 pts as the 3861st viewer.
Currently, the seismic warning level is at #1 the highest and a lot of vents on the slope surface can be observed steaming, an increase in water temp and strong distinctive sulfur smell, boiling point inside the crater area somewhere on the NE shore!...I'll be posting some shots of the area in the next two weeks. Rgds, Alex
