A title given to this Roman Catholic Church, one of the oldest in the Northern Philippines and dedicated to Saint Augustine, is "Shrine of Our Lady of Charity". A few feet from where I took this photo, at the altar is an image of Mary believed to be miraculous by the devotees.

Story from decades back has it that the image in a wooden box was found by some fishermen floating in Bantaoay River in San Vicente, Ilocos Sur. People from other towns and provinces tried to take the image but only the people from Bantay were able to lift it and bring it to their town. Thus it was believed that the image was intended for the people of Bantay. Miracles born of the prayers made with the venerated image then became part of the story of this church. The church is also known for its bellfry that sits on top of hill a few meters from the church. The whole structure is said to be of earthquake baroque and gothic style.

Before leaving the church, I went up to where the image is (usually at the back of the altar is a stairs leading to it) and remembered how my mother used to stand behind the statue and with her eyes closed whispers her prayers, touches the statue or the edge of its clothing and leaves feeling grateful. And I guess I did something similar. Both in homage to a woman of our faith and a mother who is still sorely missed.

This photo is very interesting.
I like the warm colours together with the dark shadows, that is a very good contrast.
Very well done

Tina, superb photo. Exquisite lighting, tonality, the golds and dark browns do emanate the spiritual atmosphere of this fairly unadorned, lovely church. Excellent!!!
Sarolta

Excellent lighting. Good composition and perfect color.

i love photos that take me to place i have never been to, yet looks and feels strangely familiar..i can almost smell the aroma of candles and flowers on the altar (imagination lng)..hehe. the lighting and the colors are excellent..makes me want to reflect..

Superb!

Dex

Good picture taken with difficult contrast and lighting conditions.
I find the slender arches to be very interesting - it makes the construction look almst fragile.

It's amazing how you've managed the light here. Very very well-seen. Good exposure.

The capture of lights from one end of this dark church is done very nicely. With your note it makes it all very interesting.

You used the light in a great way here and managed to get a good balance, showing enough other details in the church. Great atmosphere!
Thanks,
Magnus
