Photographer’s Note
The Province of Pampanga is world famous for these Lenten rites. Many flagellants fill the streets during this hot summer season and pass by Churches. At the Church, they pray and stretch their bodies on the ground forming the shape of a cross. These devotees believe that their sins will be forgiven by doing these acts. The process is called Salibatbat in the local dialect of Kapampangan.

Yuk, this makes my insides turn around. I could never just stand there, and look at it. Even have troubles looking at your picture! It's pretty disgusting and gruesome.
Still... it's somehow 'daily life'. Something that belongs to their tradition (I'm soooo happy I live in Holland! haha).
Good picture anyway.

its a very sad sight but for the individual participating, its a way for him to ask God to forgive him for his wrongdoings.
as a catholic and a filipino, this digs in deep in my emotions.
