Streets of Vigan Photo

Photographer’s Note

In the Philippines, when you talk about Vigan, the first thing that comes to mind is an "old world" - antiquated houses, cobbled narrow streets and calesas (horse carriages) still plying the streets. This pic is just one block of the old Mestizo district where many historic century-old houses still stand and are being occupied.

Vigan has been included in the prestigious UNESCO World Heritage List of Sites and Monuments in 1999 and became one of the only five World Heritage Sites in the Philippines.

Muy buena perspectiva Alford! Es difici tomar foto en plena sol, pero tu foto tiene muchos detalles en sol y en sombra. Me gusta composicion, tambien.

Excellent POV Alford. You have captured the antiquity of the city perfectly and your choice of B&W compliments it. The photo is very sharp as well. I can see the details of the road and the building.

But what I like most about this photo is the perfect marriage of the old and the new world. The girl walking wearing her modern clothes symbolizes the new world. It would have been better though if she was walking towards you.

Nice shot here alford. Seems like an old picture but the presence of the lady in jeans have provided soeme contrast on the present age. Choice of B&W is necessary with this kind of shot. Good depth and composition considering the inclusion of "kalesa". Good Job!
