Photographer’s Note
Taken (mid-day) during our Missions Project held at Barrio Vista Allegre.
These kids were waiting for us to start the Bible Study Lessons.
I learned later that day that the Philippine Government gives free bags to public school kids.
and it is color coded too - girls get the blue bags and boys get the red bags.
here in North America, they give-away Apple iBook laptops.
different needs.

A fine capture and those bags have a lot of room to grow into. I also like the line of footwear and trouser lenghts, a lot of details there.
Here blue would certainly be for boys and red for girls.

Very different as photography; I mean having subjects not facing the camera! Very good note too. Not many girls at this school :-)

This photograph definitely tells a story. I think it is the first day of school. Who is going to be my teacher this year? Am I going to make new friends, etc...

I think one of them is me ... seems like just yesterday that I was once in a line like this. But of course we didn't have backpacks then.
I feel the tension and excitement of the kids and also could smell (in a good nostalgic way) the sunburnt smell that kids in the Philippines have.

Good shot. I like the site ans the learn trough photography slogan. I realized some interesting points (at least to me in the picture):
1) My geography is not very good so don't know exactly where is Philipines. But now, I took a look at a map in the google search engine.
2) different situations. Some of the childreen got bags, others don't.
3) some of then use tennis, like Nike or something. The other ones, have sandals or almost nothing (that old ones).
4) thyere isn't so much difference between girls and boys hair. Just the bag to make a difference.
5) the pants, vary among nuances of mustard.
Nice "SOCIAL" shoot

Hello Charles,
Great subject well captured! I like your tight cropping... maybe a tad more sharpness would do some good here...
