Life on Boracay, a photo from Aklan, Western Visayas

Photographer's Note

One of dozens of outriggers, also known as wave-cutters races just 50 metres from White beach, the main part of Boracay. Voted as one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. The coral sand feels like cotton under your feet and this is said to be how the Spaniads named this slice of paradise around 400 years ago. No changes to this photo apart from cropping to size. A wonderful place to visit.

History of Boracay
The first settlers of Boracay in Panay are called Negritos or Atis. Panay are then called "Land of the Atis" These Negritos are the indeginuous people of the Philippines and they farmed and fished in Boracay for centuries.

During the 1940s and 1950s, the Boracaynons or the people of boracay, depended largely on fishing and coconut plantation. Copra, the dried meat of coconut, was traded to businessmen from Aklan in exchange for rice and other goods and commodities.

Hi Murray,

A colorful catamaran which is a good addition to the composition. The point of view takes our eyes toward the horizon which is giving depth to the photo. The good luminosity is enhancing the colors. have a nice day.

Hello Murray,

I've never seen such a design before. There is an impression of windswept sails, and great speed. Incidentally, some of your images in Italy were shot with a Cannon 50D. Is the SONY a compact pocket camera you use occasionally?
