Thank God for Low Tides!
Continuing my Sunset series from this paradise, this was taken earlier that day. Shot with a GND Grey .9 Filter, Graduated Blue Filter and a Warming Filter.
On Sailing: one of various water activities tourists could experience. They even have a package where you could rent a boat-around 1200 Pesos, roughly 30USD if I'm not mistaken-for 3 hours, set sail and just watch the sunset at the sea. You could pay extra if you wanna have dinner while sailing.
Boracay is a tropical island about an hour's flight from Manila in the Philippines. Its long white sand- (imagine the texture of flour-that's how fine the sand is) - beaches rival the best beaches of more popular destinations such as the Caribbean, the South Pacific as well as neighboring Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia.

Hello Matt - Wonderful sand ripples and attractive soft light. I like the gentle colours of sand and sea. The sky and sailing boat bring a little weight into the shot but the sky may be a tad dark at the frame edge. Warm regards rosemary
PS I saw your reply to my query and I will start doing some research on a possible visit early next year.

The ripples in the sand creates a beautiful
layers in this picture and this with the
vertical position creates a very nice depth
in the picture. The open space makes the
picture nice calmness. The light management
is also great and the little boats on the
background are a nice extra.

I prefer this one from the previous. First for the clear color and then for the composition using perfectly the sail boat.
For the tiny detail, I would crop a bit of the left border to remove the cutted boat just on the border.

Hi Matt,a very nice opportunity this low tide to take a magnificent and neverending perspective, perfect moment whit the best light to create this 3D effect on the little dunes make by the wet sand, spectacular and minimalistic composition.Have a nice day and thanks,Luciano.

Hello Matt,I quite like the deep blue sky, sort of reminiscent of polarizing filters and Velvia slide,ah good old days!
The FG ripples create some nice patterns in a calm and tranquil scene.
All the best Les.

Very creative and I think, artistical composition. Perfect framing with the ripples in the sand on a large part of the picture drawing nice curves and giving a impressive depth . Splendid soft colors and attractive inclusion of the boat.

Very nice framing, leaving 2/3rd of the frame to the sand and its splendid ripples. I also like the soft tones

first of all, i enjoyed your comment about my perfectionistic ways of the 'corner to corner' compo in my photo.....thanks! lol
fine photo here.
and to be honest, the longer i look at this scene, the more i think about cropping out the ocean - leaving just the wavy wet sand - looks awesome!
have fun out there!

The wave patterns in sand are just fascinating. Colours are cooler than on the previous shots, and make the ambience even more relaxed. That sailing boat is perfectly placed.
diomed (13926) 2012-03-23 11:59
fantastic shot with great graphic impact. The sand texture is impressive, the sailboat in the horizon is delicious. The vertical frame, POV, DOF sharp are excellent.

Great shot, I love how you include much of the foreground with the beautiful sand Patterns that lead us in to the sea. The sail boat with deep blue match the color of the sky very well. Good quality with good DoF and lovely semi minimalist composition.
jemaflor (88161) 2012-03-29 12:59
congratulations ! Excellent composition with the fg and this lonely blue sailboat, well seen and taken.

I really enjoyed my week in Boracay so this brings back nice memories. A place I would love to go back to one day. Good repetition of the rippled patterns in the sand, with the solitary bangka making a superb focal point in the distance. Tfs!
Cricri (110295) 2012-03-30 10:32
Une composition magnifique aux deux couleurs, celle du sable contre le bleu du voilier, du ciel et de la mer
fantastique dessins sur le sable, bonne profondeur, très belle réalisation
jusninasirun (17162) 2012-03-31 2:24
Stunning tall frame composition with ripples from the low tide sand add perspective and depth in the frame. Love the sail along the horizon with visually pleasing tone.
Thanks and have a wonderful weekend.
abmdsudi (45668) 2012-04-02 23:23
This image exudes tranquility and, with the lone sailboat on the horizon it feels like a beautiful place for contemplation. Capturing the figure with the ripples in the wet sand is excellent drawing the eyes in, and without the figure there would be a completely different mood to it. Love those beautiful warm colors of the image complemented by those great ripples. It's a fascinating beauty with excellent sense of vastness by the solitude fig, exposure is so well managed too. A very fine photo work, Congrats.

Hi Matt, lovely photo of this wonderful place in the evening, very well captured with great quality and expertise. Excellent job very well done, my compliments for it my friend. Good afternoon and happy week. Tfs.
CLODO (31606) 2012-04-03 10:20
the boat makes the picture, so small but so important. Good management of the different filters, even if I think that the blue one is a little bit "too much). Splendid perspective leading the look on the sails.
delpeoples (54463) 2012-04-17 2:13
Oooh la la! This is magnificent, probably one of your best. Amazing textures on the sand, superb depth of field and beautiful colour rendering. You chose the vertical frame superbly. A photo definitely in the style of Way Lim, congratulations.
