Photographer’s Note
this upload is a re-post (larger image plus framing).
a mangosteen is a tropical evergreen tree, believed to have originated in the sunda islands and the moluccas.
the rind of the fruit is deep reddish purple when ripe. the fragrant flesh is sweet and creamy, citrusy with a touch of peach flavor. in asia this fruit is referred to as "queen of fruits".
the outer shell of the fruit is rather hard, typically 4-6cm in diameter, and contains insect-repelling subtances which discourage insect infestation. cutting thru the shell, one finds edible flesh shaped like a peeled tangerine but bright white, nested in a deep red outer pod. depending on the size and ripeness of the fruit, there might be seeds in the segments of the white edible part. the seeds however are not edible unless cooked.
mangosteens are now being grown and sold on some of the hawaiian islands.

Thanks for this post! We actually have an Asian restaurant in Munich which is called "Mangostin" (the German way of writing these fruits' name I guess) and now I know where it comes from ;) The colurs are wonderful and the little green parts in top of the fruit even accentuate the deep purple and blue. I also like the framing!

Hola Benedict:
No he necesitado ver tu nombre para saber que era una foto tuya.
Por cierto, te diré que me parece que eres uno de los mejores enmarcadores de TE. Haces que tus fotos ganen mucho con los marcos que les pones.
Un saludo desde España...Javi

Hi benedict
Beautifull close up on the fruits. The colors, the light and the sharpness are excellent.

Hi Benedict,
You are still posting same fruits also available here in Suriname. I’m learning a lot of details with your posts. Colors and detaails are spectacular. Congratulations.
I would like to wish to you and your family a joyful and peaceful holiday season, and a prosperous New Year.
Friendly Regards,
Ertugrul

its a wonder how your photos have transformed the ordinary into something extraordinarily interesting. i miss mangosteen, it seems that it did not come into season this year. market prices in davao amount to as much as php250 a kilo. when i used to enjoy it at php20 - php40 a kilo last year. oh well, i can only look forward to next year.
thanks for sharing.
