Carabao Caravan
 |
|
| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
This is a Carabao Caravan. The animal you see pulling it is a carabao, the national animal in the Philippines, otherwise known as Asian Water Buffalo. This caravan goes around the massive Villa Escudero Estate, ferrying resort guests and employees from one facility to the next. The Carabao is a hardworking farm animal, used by farmers who do not have the money to purchase machinery. By attaching wooden planks ("paragos"), the carabo walks around the farm pulling the paragos, to flatten the land thus prepare it for planting (usually rice). When not working, the carabao rests on usually muddy portions of the farm.
The caravan "driver" here is a resort employee. They operate from 5:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. (they cannot operate through the dark of the night because the carabaos don't see well at night!). The wooden nameplate you see above the driver's head that says "Mahinhin" (meaning "modest") is actually the carabao's name :)
Villa Escudero is 3 hours away from Manila and can be reached via regular provincial bus service (such as BLTB or Jam). |

Allô Josh!
Très intéressante photo, la dernière fois que j'ai vu chose semblable c'était au Costa Rica en 2002. Bonne composition et les couleurs sont magnifiques.
Félicitations!...
Emilius
Hi Josh, I have never been to Villa Escudero before. Looks like a good place to visit. A very pleasing capture of the kalabaw and his caretaker. Good sharpness and colors. Greetings! Danilo
