In the middle of Lake Taal, there are at least two islands made from volcanic uprisings and in the middle of the uprising I was on (I believe it wasa Mt. Tabaro), there is a lake in the middle of that. Once you land on the island, you have the option of walking up to the summit, or taking a horse.l It was so hot dry and dusty and the incline so steep, not many walked. This boy owns the horse he is leaning on, and he makes his living ferrying tourists to the tip of the crater, where you can view the lake in the middle of the island. It is hard work for both the horse and their owners to make sure everyone makes it to the viewpoint safely.

The volcano itself is said to be quite active, at least according to the Lonely Planet. I didn't really see any sign of volcanic activity, but once you get to the viewpoint overlooking the lake, the smell of sulfur is certainly very strong.

Great note. It's very interesting. Good photo too. The boy seems to be so serious! Well captured. Right in the spirit of TE!

I like your composition. I also like the contrast of the yellow shirt and the brown horse. DOF enhanced this picture. And he's even wearing his shirt inside-out. Good shot!

a portrait.. very rough, harsh light, his burned face and his mule with only one eye in the frame. very well composed, great DOF.. this is very natural.
it is a very good portrait.

A very fine "portrait in action" Darren. The short DOF is well used and his concentrated face is so full of concern for something. The crop is very well chosen too. There is one slight improvement I think you can do - if the redish spot over his ear would by accident loose its color it would be a positive thing.
Very very well done!

very nice double portrait. i like it a lot.

Beautiful portrait of the bot and half of his horse. I like the way you framed the horse and the position of the eye. Nice DOF and colors. But the best is the boy's expression, of coarse. Well done, Darren.
