Photographer’s Note

This is an helicopter view of the center of the "Crater Lake" in the Taal Lake.

Taal Lake is located about 60 km southeast of Manila, the capital of the Philippines, on the capital island Luzon.

Taal volcano is a 5 km diameter island located 60 km south of Manila, situated in a 20 km diameter caldera filled by a lake. Its last eruption occurred in 1977 and its history is composed of several deadly eruptions. Thirty three eruptions have been recorded since 1572 at Taal.

The Taal Volcano itself has a lake of its own inside its crater called "Crater Lake". One can even swim inside the Crater Lake but the lake's water is a very diluted form of sulfuric acid with high concentration of boron, magnesium, aluminum and sodium in salt form. Its mean depth measures 20 m. In its dark water is no life of fish possible.

Original is a Kodachrome 64 slide, scanned using a Nikon Coolscan.
