Photographer’s Note

One of the most magnificent pieces of scenery in the Philippines is the Central Cordillera in the north of the country. The journey through the mountains from Baguio via Sagada and Bontoc to Banaue, although not the easiest, is unforgettable.

Halsema Road (formerly called the Mountain Trail) is the main route to the Cordilleras and runs between Baguio and Bontoc. It was was started in the 1920s. To this day, however, the roadwork has not been completed. Although there is a short stretch of surfaced road in the south, the majority of the route remains a bumpy, dusty track, winding through steep passes.

This photo was taken while the bus was on a pit stop between Sagada and Banaue.

this is the malegcong rice terreces. i suppose this was taken from the restaurant in bontoc.

What a nice place!! I saw such terraced fields in China, and I think that one can see them in many other Asia countries. Here there is also a river and some interesting rocks.

I remember your excellent rice terraces images from MIP, maybe they were from the same trip but I haven't seen this before...
Fine composition based on the river, the lines in the terraces adds to dynamics! The beautiful green of course, partly reflected from the river... Beautiful landscape indeed!

Your framing is perfect. Maybe your focus was too close, or maybe you should use an aperture of f/11 or more, because the wonderful background is a little blured.

What is very nice in this photo is the breakdown of the scale from one side of the river to the other. At first glance the terraces look like they are at human stepping size, then you look to the right of the river and realize how small a fence is near you, let alone the terraces far away.
This play of scale is very rare and hard to come by in nature. Of course, painters can fake it easily (Mona Lisa, is a clear example) but to capture it in a photo is indeed not easy. Well done.

Having seen these terraces in Bali, I find these fascinating. You've captured these terraces superbly with the diagonal setting leaving space for us to explore. I like the 3 greens here, of the grass in the FG, the terraces & the hue in the river. Quite superb!

Lovely colours, excellent POV, I like such green cascades but I didn't saw something like this in my journeys. Maybe some day... I think that a little bit more sharpness is needed but this picture is great as I say,

Hi Danilo,
I certainly missed a winner for a long time. This is an amazingly beautiful place. The river is almost the color of glacial melt although I'm not aware of glaciers in the PI. The framing is great with fields on both sides of the diagonal of the river. The clarity of the colors is lovely and the focus is sharp.
