about mt.pulag: (from pbase guys)
Mt. pulag is 2,922 meters above sea level it is actually only the 3rd highest mountain in the Philippines, next to Mt. Apo (godfather) in Davao, Mindanao (2,956) and Mt. Dulang-dulang (D2) in Bukidnon, Mindanao (2,938).
Mt. Pulag was proclaimed National Park by virtue of Presidential Proclamation No. 75 on February 20, 1987 covering an area of 11,550 hectares. It was established to protect and preserve the natural features of the area such as its outstanding vegetation and wildlife. It belongs to the Cordillera Biogeographic Zone located in Northern Luzon. Mt. Pulag is a National Integrated Protected Areas System (NIPAS) site.
It is considered considered as one of the most scenic National Parks in the Cordillera Area. It's different from the typical Philippine rainforests because of its mostly grassland upper terrain. However, it has also its forested sides as well with pines and mossy trees.
Its grasslands has its distinct characteristics of changing colors on different season or part of the year. During the dry season, Mt. Pulag turns into brown, while its rolling hills turns light to dark green during the rainy seasons, almost similar to those of well-maintained golf courses.
That's why the local people believed that it is a playground of the gods!
