Photographer’s Note
Not a good picture I know, but the only one I have and I wanted to show you this ferry that I took from Leyte to Manila. I was so shocked when I got on to see only beds!! For many of you this is probably not new, but I thought some might find it interesting. The first night I rented a private cabin, but the air conditioner was so high that I nearly froze, so the next night I slept out with everyone else, and I must say I slept like a baby :) This was a huge ferry, and only about 6 chairs on the whole thing!

Hi Karen,
WOW! This is really incredible! I have never seen anything like this. I would be a little intimidated to sleep there with so many people, but on the other hand it looks like a lot of fun too!
THanks for sharing,
Shaeri

Hi Karen,
U R right, photo isn't great - but let's say that technique isn't the most important here! These horrible beds, hundreds of people sleeping face to face, people that u don't know and ever seen before:) Really horrible!:) But great idea to show us this phot, THX for sharing,
greetings,
mikeo

I would have been shocked like you. I can't imagine sleeping with loads of strangers. maybe it isn't an attractive photo, but it surely fulfils TE's main aim. Well done

Hi Karen,
difficult light and for sure worth of a posting. As I know you saw some of my emigration ones I think this is a modern variant of the beds on those former sailing or later steam ships. Good POV to include the amount and good moment of having them empty.

Hi Karen,
I'm amazed by your sense of adventure because normally only locals sleep in this kind of accommodation ... I reckon you'll go a long way traveling anywhere in this earth if you have such an open mind to local conditions. This scene brings back memories when I use to take the ferry from Cebu-Manila on third class accommodation (no air-con). This ship is good ... it has life jackets :) Well captured and thanks for sharing your experience. I'm sure the experiences you've gathered traveling in a less develop countries will help you appreciate more the lifestyle you have back in USA.
All the best.

Karen, as you say it isn't a great shot tho it is not bad. This density explains why there are so many deathss when one of these ferrys sinks, good post, very informative and a nice note to explain it.

I have to say its understandable that so many people lose their lives when they have a ferry accident when they are all asleep in close quarters. TFS.

Oh, my gosh, Karen,
that is worse sleeping conditions than my Navy ships. We at least had "coffin racks" with drapes you could pull across. I can't imagine sleeping in such close, open-air quarters with that many strangers. What do you do on there if you're not sleepy?? And do they assign them or do you just choose one that's empty? What an adventure that must have been. I really like this, I've never seen anything like it. Thanks and hope all is well,
Shelly

Bonsoir,
belle photo de ce dortoir ou reposoir car je me vois fort mal dormire dans un endroit pareil.
Belle prise sous un bon POV qui nous montre le nombre et l' espace restreint entre ces lit a 2 étages.

hello Karen
Shooting the interior of a ferry is a tough nut. Everywhere you turn, it is all the same, metals, wires, pipes and racks. And you chose the beds!
Nice angle and good color. When you are tired, the best bed is where natural breeze and open air (not stuffy) like this hall. Sleep like a baby, yes, but any snoring? :)
