Photographer’s Note
My friend Gu Tong...at the coffee stand on my street: Gu Tong's mother works accross the street at the fruit stand, and gives Gu Tong his money each day (6 pesos) for his breakfast - one small piece of bread, and a cup of instant coffee (he likes to dunk the bread into his black coffee).
He spends his days playing with his friends at this intersection, where his Mother works at the local fish stand.
...I've always thought that when he's watching the other kids his age comming & going from school, he's wondering what it would be like if he could go to school too.
When he's quiet, he looks off into the distance & appears to be daydreaming; thinking about things...
He doesn't really smile this early in the morning, and since I would have a banana with my coffee, I'd offer him one, but he almost always politely refused....when I had penny candies & gum with me though, he'd always accept it; he LOVES Wrigleys V-Fresh gum.
I have another image of him in my TrekLens Gallery.

nice pix! just wondering the name of the boy you said is Gu Tong. it sounded more chinese than filipino! by his physical/facial features, he doesn't look chinese to me. and chinese-pinoys are lucky, they always are born moneyed or better, "born with silverspoon in their mouth"..and that's the difference!
cheers,
benedict
