Photographer’s Note
These cone-shaped, grass-covered hills are probably the province's most famous attraction. During the dry season, its grass dries up and turns chocolate brown, making the area into seemingly endless rows of chocolate (Hershey's)Kisses, hence the name.
According to one local legend, the hills came into existence when two feuding giants threw rocks and boulders at each other for days. In their exhaustion, they forgot about their feud and became friends, but left behind the mess (turned hills) they made. Another is the story of the young and powerful giant Arogo, who fell in love with the mortal girl Aloya. When the girl died, the giant cried, tear drops falling to the ground. When the tear drops dried up the hills were formed.
Geologists have long debated about its unusual goelogical formation but the most commonly accepted theory is that they are eroded formations of a type of marine limestone that sits on top of hardened clay.
