Only in the Philippines. Young boys walking streets during Holy Week and perform the act of flagellation.

First, a skin on the back is cut a little by a razor blade. Next, thousands of hits rips of the skin. Though rods are made of bamboo tree the number of whips makes the skin look like on the picture.

the notes give me goosebumps. i must say that altho i am from the philippines (i live in the south, btw), i have not been to Angeles City on holy week to witness such religious practice. i guess, just like any other religion for that matter, the practice becomes too much to comprehend. however, the most amiable experience i had from visiting this city during the months prior to Christmas was admiring how the intricate designs of lanterns are made (using local capiz seashells) to the delights of both local and foreign torurists alike.
anyway, the photo is clear and crisp with excellent managed lighting with the background blurr adding that effect.
