[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
After rice harvest from the fields, the next activity is rice drying. This is where children usually come in to help their elders. The rice is laid out on cemented places to be dried. A very typical scene in the Philippines (especially in the provinces) after harvest are farmers drying rice on cemented roads, occupying half the lanes and causing traffic.

This was taken in the afternoon, after the rice are dried and are being readied to be placed into sacks. The young boy here patiently sweeps every grain, making sure nothing is wasted.

Whenever I eat rice, I also make sure there are no leftovers. When I think of the hard work done by farmers - from planting to harvest to drying - I have to make sure nothing is wasted, too.

Hi Alford. What a nice catch of the cute kid. He looks so focused on what he's doing. Maybe I'd sharpen it more but everything else is great. Well seen Alford!

Well seen Alford - a lovely shot which captures the intense concentration of this boy on his important task. I love his outfit - those shorts look a few sizes too big:) I think it might be better if the dof were a bit shallower but I like it a lot. Very appealing.

good shot of rice drying in the PI Alford, have seen it many times during the time I lived there for 5yrs, good composition and exposure, well done.

Alford,
This is so great! this is unsual, on his age he supposed to be enjoying his young age playing with other kids. good capture of daily life.

Hi Alford,
A good documentary of daily life in your country! Excellent POV and composition, great colours too.. Your note makes my experience even richer, well done!

Pablo -

Hi Alford , Solute to the little boy, who was concentrated to his work. You have done an excellent job to show his action, his expression and the good work he did. Nice contrast and great details. Well done.

Hi Alford, you had become a master at presenting glimpses in the daily life of the farmers and this shot is no exception. Nicely composed with a shallow dof to bring out the boy in action. Well captured!

Regards, Christian

They've said it all so I'd like to praise the messeage of the photo which is a value that each Filipino should have. Thanks, Alford.

This phot brings back very old memories. When I was a kid we use to go for summer vacations in my mother's provincial town of Gapan and San Isidro, Nueva Ecija and they always direct me to do this. But my short pants does not go all the way to my ankles and only wear white "sando" undershirts! Nice picture with good composition and color.

Have a nice weekend,
John

very good work here of this kid, I like the composition and the clarity of this pic, very good work

Great capture! The boy seems to be working so hard to ensure the job is done right. I had a tough time with rice when I lived in the Philippines because of all of the "extras" that seemed to come in the bag with the rice. I didn't mind the little bits of rock -- it was the bugs. I found the trick was to pour water over the rice, let it settle and let the bugs float to the top. Then, after a few months I decided rather than pick out every last little bug I would put a lot of cracked pepper on my rice and that way I would have no idea what was pepper and what was a bug. It worked like a charm!

Seeing your photo is great, it is a real lesson in daily life in the Philippines and what people go through for a simple dish of rice. Thanks for sharing!
