majestic mayon Photo

Photographer’s Note

This is Mayon Volcano in the province of Albay. I remember trekking this scenic area in a rented motorbike. For the whole afternoon during my visit, I took so many pictures of the volcano but it was covered with clouds. Finally the clouds cleared as the sun began setting down.

Mayon is a stratovolcano or composite volcano. Many consider it as one of the world's most perfectly formed volcano for its symmetrical cone. The current cone was formed through pyroclastic and lava flows from past eruptions. Mayon is perhaps the most active volcano in the Philippines, having erupted over 47 times in the past 400 years. I keep asking my cousin who lives in the area to move.

Mayon is located on a convergent boundary between the Eurasian and the Philippine Plate. Like other volcanoes located around the rim of the Pacific Ocean, Mayon is part of the "Pacific Ring of Fire".

Hello Danilo,
A very good expansive view over this verdant landscape with the volcano rising up in the far distance. Interesting pink/blue tones in the sky contrast well with the greens of the intervening plain. Very good sharpness.

You're right, the shape is amazing with perfect symmetry as far as I can judge!
I have seen several pictures but never from this elevated point of view, where the varied light and wild flowers add an extra touch...

This is a wonderfully thought out photo: The flowers in the FG setting, the river and valley with farms in the middle and the volcano in the BG.

In fact, all you're missing is an eruption.
