Photographer's Note

Several times in Afghanistan and Pakistan I was surprised to see bearded men, wearing turbans and sometimes carrying a gun, walking down the street sniffing the fragrance of a flower, I even once saw someone looking like a present day Taliban holding a rose in his mouth. Somehow, to my mind, their appearances and their habits didn't match.
This man from a market area in Quetta city, April 1973, is just a young guy, so anything could be expected.
