This is a small town called Kalam in the Swat valley of northern Pakistan. The picture was taken on a weekend tour in May 1986 and is scanned from a Kodachrome slide.

Sometimes I feel. damned it! why cant this area be so safe so I could go there, bringing my family and hike.
and then I realize...
such egoistic idea of wishing for peace so I could go on holiday there. when people get killed and starving and what ever...
do you understand what I mean...

You certainly have an intressting portfolio. You have visited so many contries! Do you remeber whats behind the vhill in between the mountains? It lokks like it could have been a lake or something. Big contrats between the lower buildings and thoose n the hills indeed.

In this case, I can see that you must have been thinking a lot about the composition and planned the picture well. I do not believe you took a lot of pictures here, as one does nowadays with digitals. The bridge is perfectly placed, the horizon in the correct relation to the motive and so on... Must be one of your best pictures!

Yes, 1986 were different times. Jolly times! The world has unfortunately changed for the worse. Especially in this part of the world. The menace and obsession of terrorism and world politics has had its toll on Swat. Nice pic nonetheless worthy of full rating.

Another excellent scan showing daily life 22 years ago in a part of the world it would not be recommended to travel to today. A peaceful scene - TFS, Marlene

Must have been very peaceful in 1986, a few years before chronic commercialisation got there, before it became part of the beaten track.
The PoV is great.

You're capturing well this daily life of small town by a good angle and excellent tone/clarity, so it's interesting and impressive to see a local towm which has steep mountains back. To my understanding, it is visible to the local scenery of typical Pakistan here. River, small market, colony, surrounding nature and residents living in valley. It is felt for the lifestyle rooted in longtime nativeness.
Have a nice day.

Another interesting report from the past. I wonder by the first critique and that short discussion around your photo and some politic aspects. We are living in the world of problems.
Excellent quality, perfect sharpness. May of 1986? Ohh, I remember the Chernobyl problems were more actual for us than Aghanistan.
