Photographer’s Note
From its origin at Kalam, the Swat River flows south and then west for 250 kilometres, joining the Kabul River eventually. Generally, the upper Swat is considered to start at Kalam and extends to Madyan, where the N95 road crosses from the left bank to the right bank. In this upper section, the river flows through a narrow gorge with a maximum width of 35 - 40 metres. Flow is substantially increased with the spring/summer melt in the mountains. The water habitat in the upper Swat favours trout.
