Photographer's Note
A spice shop in the old bazaar of Peshawar in northwestern Pakistan 1972. It was my first visit to Peshawar, and although I have been back several times since then, it remains an extremely interesting and exciting city, unfortunately getting a bit dangerous these days.
This was scanned from a slide, I believe it was an Agfacolor.

Hej Gert,
Very fine colours but I think a detailed explanation is required here. Can you please identify all spices here, from left to right ;) Some signs above each basket would be very helpful! A very good scan.

Gert,
This is a great piece of history, a moment of a daily life. Probably did not change much since then, maybe some new people. You actually needs a time to study all those details.
Thanks!

Hi Gert, Great shot, so many elements all contributing. I especially like the men inside having a conversation. Cheers, Steve

Hej Gert,
yes, unfortunately Pakistan is a dangrous place nowadays :( So many interesting places have become dangerous!:(
Excellent composition and very interesting details! I like these round baskets full of something I can't even guess what :)
Concerning those men chatting at the BG (in the dark), I join Steve in his opinion. I must say it was very wse of you to include them in the photo! But if I were you I would have taken one more - closeup - shot of these two men ;) especially the one on the right!
Very good scan! Good depth.
kind regards,
Elena

Excellent daily like market shot with all the spices. The men in your shot are a great addition to the scene. No self-respecting cook from Pakistan would add a curry mixture but use all the separate ingredients. Your slide has stood the test of time.

Hi Gert,
What amazing detail, raw spices and lentils/maize I think in rattan baskets and the sellers in the most common and relaxed posture. The wooden crates havent changed much since 1972 they still look the same.
I really like your PoV here which nicely frames the shop facade.
Beautiful shot

Kamran

Hello Gert
You do seem to specialise in street scenes. With all their neatly stacked baskets it doesn't seem as though there has been much business - 3 men no doubt with families to support. The 4th man on the left could be making a purchase? Another interesting documentary style photo. Tfs, Marlene

Hello, Gert,
Your photo reminds me these flavours. I really love this Oriental odour. You made a great contribution to the field photography, so you can already afford to go without a tripod.
Best regards,
Serghei
