Karachi is dotted with institutions built by and for Goans. St. Patrick's Church, was built in 1845 at a cost of Rs 6,000 raised by the Goan community through public subscription. It was Sindh's first Catholic church. Today it is flanked by St Patrick's High School(Convent of Jesus & Mary school for girls) . Both these limestone structures are fine examples of Gothic architecture and lie in a quieter part of Karachi.

When I saw the thumbnail with Pakistan above it, I wondered if someone had made a mistake. Well, the fact that everything's quite "normal" makes the situation even eerier than I first imagined!
The predominance of the winged boy sets the composition firmly at the bottom of the frame, inviting the eye to look up, towards a dramatic wirlwind of clouds from which escapes a lonely bird, followed in its movement by a angel dressed in a billowing robe...
The scenery is really perfect and I feel that you get the most out of it.
But, to be also a quibbler after such praise, I regret a few things:
-the unnecessary wing of a third angel on the left hand side of the column (either show the statue or don't!)
- the name Jesus cut on the right (same remark as before, not for any religious act of faith on my behalf, but because I think it would give a better balance to the photo)
- the missing soles of the feet of the winged boy...
If you get the opportunity, try to reshoot it from a slightly lower point of view, moving a bit on your right. In my opinion, you should get even better results!
Thanks for opening my mind and eyes, Mujtaba...

Very nice perspective and setting.
I really like the way the view ends with the clouds and the bird.
Thanks for sharing.

My goodness what a perspective in this photo. Gorgous lighting even thought you are shooting upwards to capture all on the roof
chaity (1539) 2005-09-21 21:58
Hai Mujtaba, nice point of view of this angel. Like the little bit of flaring and the bird behind.

You have chosen a really great POV. The subject is beautiful. The sky seems so unreal !
Anyway, the result is perfect.
Well done !
Gdouble (0) 2005-09-23 13:57
Unusual POV but great perspective. The bird in the sky put a dramatic mood in to the picture.
icebox (28) 2005-09-23 16:38
Hey mugush, I loved the pic. All the elements are so cool, even the one bird in the sky, making it even better.
I wish I had taken this photo. :P
Ged (391) 2005-09-24 2:49
Nice perspective, good lighting and POV. I like the bird in the clouds. Good job.
erdna (5711) 2005-09-25 12:15
Beautiful point of view and composition Mujtaba. Despite shooting against the light you were able to get a good exposure. Very well done.
Als, I want to thank youfor your comments on my photo, "La Iya Beach". I appreciate it.
remcos (707) 2005-09-25 12:24
Very nice composition
I think it is the best photo so far you have.
Sharpens and the dark sky coming are great.
msuess (615) 2005-09-27 0:52
Wonderfull picture! the PoV is great and the composition as well. i also like the clouds in the background. there is a little sunflare but doesn't affect too much...

This is quit an expressive and appealing shot. Perfect angle and framing. The bird above the statue is a nice detail. Very well seen and done.
sarju (5324) 2005-09-30 17:28
not a typical photo one would expect from Pakistan .... and you have done a wonderful job of portraying your country .... the thing I liked the most about this photo is the eagle that can be seen flying overhead.
Very good photos man ... it was nice to see the Pakistan through your lens. Zabardast compostion bhai ... mazaa aa gaya

Superb shot. really this is excellent. I like the POV, the wonderful clouds and the light. The bird caps it all off !
1 problem - the sun glare, it is unfortunate, but does not ruin the photo. I've done a workshop to try and clean it up (not a very good job though (sorry!)
michmoraga (8) 2005-10-07 2:24
Nice perspective. All the elements tie in perfectly. There's that obvious glare from the sun but considering that you were taking this picture against the light, you've manage to get very good exposure. I love this picture!
designsoul (21492) 2005-10-07 10:26
Wonderful shot, Mujtaba. Very powerful angle, good strong composition. I would agree with dom though that a slight change of angle might make it even more perfect, if you have a chance to reshoot it. Otherwise, a very nice gutsy photo
UlfE (14641) 2005-10-08 15:11
Wonderful perspective. Superb composition and light. I love it. Excellent job!
kevinos (7403) 2005-10-11 15:00
It's a great picture, Mujtaba. The composition is very exciting. The PoV gives a very dramatic perspective. It's very baroque is style and looks like looking up into one of those baroque domes. The bird is a wonderful touch. It reminds me somehow of Tinteretto. It seems totally alien to Asia and to Pakistan, like a foreign footprint in a native land. It's a strange legacy of past colonialism and past missionizing.
fireflyz (2097) 2005-10-20 19:09
Such a fresh perspective my friend! Wonderful composition and very dramatic! Bravo!
hugolef (4909) 2005-10-26 10:39
a strong compo, i like this POV that makes the statue very impressive. A nice picture about religion and what it could bring ... not always good things IMO ...
sekl (2063) 2005-10-26 21:49
What a brilliant shot here! Both the foreground and background are in harmony. Great compusition!
Unfortunately the 'lost' skies can not be restored. I would re-take the picture with exposure correction. You cannot waist such a masterpiece.
PLD_images (7149) 2005-10-27 9:08
The angle of view is impressive and so well done. The addition of the black bird in the frame adds a lot to the composition. Very powerful image. Nicely done.
adlin (18) 2005-11-06 12:19
This shot qualify the adage "a picture paints a thousand word".
I love the composition, whereby all elements are connected to each other and even that lone bird .. deserved to be included as ‘flying angel’. Static and dynamic into one. The contrasting colours are associated with the theme and well placed directly above subject.
Correct me if I am wrong, but you actually managed to 'lean' the subject to the wall. Your POV has done justice for this beautiful artwork/s.
Very informative notes. Out of curiosity, did somebody or events or natural corrosion caused the ‘missing’ subject’s right arm?
While beauty is in the eye of the beerholder, from my side of the table, any change in your POV, position and further croppings would change or reduce the impact of your shot, .. not to mention the flying angel.
To end but not to dishearthen, if I got one wish, I would wish for the missing left foot for christmas.
Janice (4403) 2005-12-03 22:07
What a dramatic sky overlooking these angels. And your POV is great. The small angel is quite a tubby one too, he looks quite cute there. Well shown, thank you Mujtaba.

I was not expecting to find this kind of ornaments in Pakistan. It was a surprise! I like very much your point of view. It creates a pyramid shape of the sculptures until we reach the sky and them, we have another treat: the bird. Very nice and original. Congrats, Best regards, Gabriel
cherubin (1971) 2006-01-19 16:14
excellent shot, perfect POV and grate colours!
i also find the reflection of the sun on the len, wich creates this violet light at the hair of the angel, very interesting!
terrysio (715) 2006-07-10 12:29
Elle est très belle ta photo!
L'ange en premier plan avec le soleil et les nuages qui se bataille au haut de sa tête forment une très belle composition.
Félicitation pour cette photo!

neosprint (213) 2007-03-16 15:14
It's impressive and very strong shot.. I enjoy it vey much.. :)
I like the sky.. it's somehow very high and far.. and at the same time very close to the figures.. what makes them to float over us.. it's perfect.. :)
All the best,
