Photographer's Note

Indus riverbed some 120 km downstream of Gilgit seems empty and barren in January. A seemingly lifeless desert. Yet, the forms of the Big and the Small speak a very strong language. Particularly morning and evening light bestows incredible life to the landscape. The river's shores are full of colorful pebbles, of any imaginable color and igneous or metamorphic rock type. Broken off somewhere high in the Karakorum peaks in the kingdom of ice and snow, and then rolled and rolled and rolled by water hundred, two hundred, three hundred kilometers downstream of this majestic river, and finally deposited at the place where my feet stand. They are here for a while only, for a geological moment only. After the first high water the stage will be designed anew. Nature is an event.
