Day 9: We arrived to Gorak Shep. I think it was the hardest day of the trek. But we were luck to see all the mountain front of us. Pumori is the one of these.

Gorak Shep is the highest village on the Everest Trek, at 5.140 mt. The 5.545 mt. hill Kala Pattar, beyond the dry lake, is the high point of the trek. The snow-covered Pumori rises in the distance.

Pumori (or Pumo Ri) is a mountain in the Himalaya on the Nepal-Tibet border. Pumori lies just eight kilometres west of Mount Everest. Pumori, which means "Unmarried Daughter" in the Sherpa dialect, was named by George Mallory. Climbers sometimes refer to Pumori as "Everest's Daughter".

Pumori is a popular climbing peak and the easiest route is graded class 3, although with avalanche danger. Pumori was first climbed in 1962 by Gerhard Lenser of a German-Swiss expedition. Two Czechs (Leopold Sulovsky and Michalec Zeduak) climbed a new route on the South face in the spring of 1996 (Joe Simpson, 1997, Dark Shadows falling).

An outlier of Pumori is Kala Patthar (5.643m), which appears as a big brown bump below the impressive south face of Pumori. Many trekkers going to see Mt. Everest up close will attempt to climb to the top of Kala Patthar. The views from almost anywhere on Kala Patthar of Everest, Lhotse and Nuptse are truly spectacular on a sunny day.

That beautiful landscape, of a wonderful place.
Still I have the dream to go one day to make one trek to the himalaias.
Thanks for sharing.
Luis.

Hi Figen,

A lovely photo. Did you use a polariser to get that nice dark blue sky? Or is it because you are so high? I am envious of your trip. Thanks for sharing

Graeme

Figen,
This is an unusual landscape desert like in the foreground and snow covered mountains in the back. The lighting and colors are great with nice sharpness and detail. The deep blue sky provides a fantastic backdrop for the shot.

Namaste Figen,
Amazing clarity and colours, so characteristic of those high places, and a great compo, with the rocks and the route on the FG combining very nicely with the snowed mountains, and the blue houses with the sky.
Regards, José.

Hi Figen
You had a nice trip it seems! Nepal mountains are unmatched! Here a fine POV on the range, with altitude colors and ok sharpness.. the tents may at first seem out of place, but with the people there it gives scale and we can understand the size of these giants!
Greetings
Laurent

Hi Figen,
Beautiful shot from this picturesque place with spectacular composition. The colours and lights are splendid, great mood, indeed. Have a nice weekend
George

Hello Figen,

Beautiful mountains in this hostile landscape!
It is man against nature and you don't get anything for free...
A wonderful composition, great colours in particular the deep blue sky typical for the altitude!

Greetings,

Tebrikler.

Hi Figen, very good image of landscape
i like a lot the strong blue of the sky and the little houses in the middle of the mountains, so we have the scale of the nature here
very good!
ciao!
Valeria

Merhaba,
Netlik, kompozisyon...tümü çok güzel.
Kutlarım.
selamlar,

Merhaba Figen,

Hi Figen,
You referred to Mallory and I remembered the tragedy! Very high elevation demanding excellent physical fitness and experience! Thanks to you I may see this beautiful terrain with Pumoripeak and surrounding countryside. Lovely saturated colors and contrast between the land and the sky! The tiny cloud over the peak adds to scene!
Thru your photos I may conclude your strong personality!

Many thanks for sharing.
Take care,
Athanasios.

Hi Figen,

you had a great trip! Light and sky are amazing here, wonderful view of the imponence of the mountain.

Figen,
your image evokes strong emotions. I was there too, although 10 years ago. The day that I got to Kalla Pattar was probably the worst physical feeling that I ever experienced in my life. I was gaping for air like a fish out of water and after returning to Gorak Shep I had to cry for some obscure reason.
What a pity that my images were all on slides that lost it brilliance and are not good for scanning.
Congratulations for your achievement!
Peter
