A Country Woman Photo

Photographer’s Note

Taking a drive out of the Kathmandu valley and you quickly climb into steep and rocky hills. Up here, life seems much harder and people scratch a living from the precious earth. Many, like this woman, raise animals, such as goats, which feed on the mountain vegetation. But the women, especially, seem to carry the signs of poverty and a hard life. I pictured this country woman at a festival in a Theravada Buddhist temple in the hills.She seems typical of the women in this harsh environment.She is one of the great, resourceful and long suffering women of Asia.

How these faces are beautiful!
They are worked with the graver like a work of artist.
They are universal: of the peasant of Nepal, with the Berber Morrocan while passing through the Breton sailor of France.
Beautiful humanity.

It looks like she said 'go away' ;) I like her expression and posture which is giving a quite dynamic impact! the fine luminosity and sharpness allowing to see nicely the details.

Great portrait Kevin, well balanced, the pose of the hand is priceless, the clean and uncluttered background is somewhat un-Nepali.

Olá Kevin, I wonder whom she's waving at...We can sure feel the hard life in her face and hands. It's a good portrait with excellent details. Although I would like to see more space to the left and less to the right, I agree that it's well framed considering her pose.
