the approach to the Pashupatinath temple on a holy day..much going on and for sale..food and trinkets and religious tokens

"Pashupatinath temple is a Hindu temple located on the shore of the Bagmati river on the eastern part of Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal.

It is regarded as the most sacred temple of Shiva (Pashupati) in Nepal. "Shivaratri" or night of lord Shiva is the most important festival celebrated in this temple. Along the shores of the Bagmati river near the temple lies "Arya Ghat", the most widely used place of cremation for the deceased in Nepal, especially in and around the Kathmandu valley. There is also a large market in the streets surrounding the temple. Vendors sell souvenirs to tourists, but also cloth, dyes, and religious supplies. Believers of the faith Hinduism are allowed to enter the temple. Non-Hindu visitors are allowed to have a look at the temple from the other bank of Bagmati river..." wikipedia

An interesting and lively scene taken from a very good point of view with loads of things going on. Very good colours and clarity. I'll have to post some of mine from Nepal sometime ;-)

The photo informs me about the people, the life and the living there. I know more about there by your photos.

Great street scene! This I think has a real sense of place to it, like being there. The colourful clothes, the smoky air, and the crowds of people give this a definite atmosphere. Nice work!

Hello, Geof.

Another fine picture of yours from Kathmandu. A fabulous cacophony of colours in that bustling yet wonderfully sharp and clear foreground. I love that rising smoke and the haze in the distance too. I'd very much like to see a close-up of the goods on offer on those market stalls.

I really have gotten behind haven't I...this is another really great capture of daily life. Alot to look at here, and I especially like the bright clothing. The buildings are very unique as well. TFS
