Photographer’s Note

Kathmandu is one of the most fascinating places I have been. If trekking in Nepal, take a few days either before your trek or after to see this colorful and interesting city.

This photo was taken at Asan Tole street market in central Kathmandu. It is walking distance from the popular tourist area of Thamel. I found the colorful fruits very interesting.

Hello Spiros, very lively street scene, with lots of details The vertical frame adds depth to the image. Perhaps I would have liked to see the woman sitting more on the foreground so that the reading of the photograph would start there. Good work.

I love market scenes and this one is superb. The colours of the fruit, buildings and people are glorious. The image is lovely and sharp too. Nice one.

Hello, Spiros--
This is very interesting, with a carefully considered composition and a great line of yellows from the fruit, but i feel like the foreground and background aren't agreeing real well. Perhaps if you had a stronger human presence in the immediate foreground it would read a little bit better, or perhaps a more simplified background, but as it is, the foreground seems very simple and open while the background very cluttered, and i don't really know what to think about the area.

Hello Spiros. This is good use of a large angle in a town. I like the way you have composed the picture with the fruits in the first part of the picture and then we have the full view of the city life. Excellent POV and DOF. Pascal

Hi Spiros. Let me begin by saying that the strong contrast and colours in this image work well to convey the vibrancy and busy-ness of the market. There are differing views on the composition and mine would be for a shift left to include a little more street and remove the male figure far right. However we should remember that this is a travel site from where we learn about the the world around us and the world far away. I feel that this picture strongly conveys to me a real feeling of what it is like to be in this market in Kathmandu and I like it very much. Excellent.
