Photographer's Note

Since attempting to climb Ama Dablam in 2004 I have developed a bit of an obsession with her.

I hadn't been back to the Khumbu region of Nepal since that expedition and as the climb nearly ate me alive, I still feel like there is alot of unfinished business there.

I wasn't quite sure how I would react to seeing the mountain again. I'd hoped that the sight would scare me to death so that I wouldn't be tempted to have another go, but unfortunately I was once again in awe as the mountain beguiled me with her beauty and precipitous ridges and faces.

Whenever she was in sight I was transfixed and I couldn't take my eyes off of her.

One morning I woke and looked out of the window to see this view, with streams of light coming from behind Ama Dablam. I immediately grabbed my tripod and camera and dashed outside, still half asleep, to steal some shots before the light changed. I only got 5 minutes to take pictures before the light did change. It just made me wonder what the light was like before I got up and was still asleep.

To the left of Ama Dablam in cloud is the massive Lhotse/Nuptse wall, with Mount Everest just poking over the top.
