The peak on the right is Lhotse, the 4th highest mountain in the world, as seen from the trail to Everest base camp. The massive, 8,000m high ridge of Nuptse extends to the left, hiding all but the very peak of Everest, which is just visible about 1/3 of the way in from the left. The clouds around the peak are a regular feature of these mountains. They are so high that they create their own weather, trailing clouds from their peaks on even the clear days.
The trail is visible in the foreground, with one of the many chortens, with some prayer stones at the base. You are supposed to keep this on your left when you pass it (for luck), so the trail splits and goes to both sides, so you can pass on the right, depending on whether you are going up or down.

Very nice Alvin. The contrast between the nearby ridges against the snowy farther slopes creats a nice 3D effect. Your inclusion of chorten in the scene make an otherwise wonderful landscape, an informative and beautiful.

Wow, another great shot from Nepal. Boy, those mountains are so beautiful and they are so jagged. The great thing about this photo is the snowcapped peaks which tower over the rocky trail. It must be an amazing feeling to stand there and see this incredible mountain scenery. Great colours, beautiful contrast and an amazing composition. Great work, Alvin!

Très belle composition. Bel angle choisi pour nous fairde admirer ces ruines avec beaucoup de netteté et les montagnes enneigées qui se détachent bien sur le bleu du ciel.
Merci pour le partage.

The Lhotse Nuptse wall really is an awesome sight. Your picture fills me with excitement as I will be back in Nepal in a couple of weeks for my 8th trek. Thanks for sharing.

A superb landscape, and good conditions for photography, I like here the frame division between the brown and the white part. Very good scan as well. How high did you get on that trip ?

Serwus Alvin !
You present a touching vista for many of Poles, and for sure, not only. I clearly remember the day when, in October 1989, Jerzy Kukuczka died attempting the South Face of Lhotse. He was the hero of my youth. If You have interest, pls check it : http://www.answers.com/topic/jerzy-kukuczka
Your Work with the scan is stunning. Superb framing for this scenery, exceptional light and clarity. Very informative and really powerful.
Thanks a lot and be well,

Hi Alvin - truly breathtaking mountain scenery, with just the right amount of clouds, excellent details in both snow and darker foreground, greetings from Yemen.

Beautiful photo, Alvin - the staggered alignment of rocks and peaks in your frame works well to convey an almost 3D impression of the scenery's grandeur. The chorten makes a good foreground detail, well described in your notes. Excellent tech.

You are an artist in action.
Someone gave you a camera and said go and present the world so that we can appreciate it more, and you continually achieve that.
This is a beautiful photo.
How could we adequately describe how well is the depth, colour, light and the POV.
The photo speaks for itself and for you.
Well done - as usual.
Have a great weekend

Wow Alvin is this impressive or what! The image quality is as good as any modern DSLR. I love the sky too. Well done!!

I like these shots that contrast the dry harsh landscape, with villages, chortens and so on, against the magnificent snow-covered mountains. This one is well-composed, with just enough sky. I suppose a time less close to mid-day (like you always shoot in Vancouver) would be even better, but of course on a trek you have to shoot at the time you pass by there! Magnificent shot of magnificent mountains for sure. Regards, Ken.

Beautiful shot! I like the contrast between the dark forground and the snow covered peaks in the back. This reminds me of when I was in Nepal... bakc in 1992! ;-)
Have a nice week-end.

this really is a top shot - and it takes me right back to this amazing place.
Your composition is nicely balanced and the view is just awesome. I am really enjoying this shot.
I was a bit confused with your description of the chortens, I guess you meant that you perambulate in a clockwise direction?
Fixfocus (9385) 2006-03-05 7:54
Your mountainscapes are often breathtaking and so is this one.Wonderful contrast between the warm foreground tones and the cold and icy looking background.A good scan too.
Have a nice sunday,

Alvin this is an incredible shot of these mountians. Usually the details are soft in the distance but I see the air is very clear up here for photography. Excellent detail, and a wonderful place.

Fantastic shot! I could imagne the moving clouds over the peaks. Well done!
john_c (24666) 2006-03-12 11:34
A well composed shot, crisp and clear. I like the foreground details of the chorten and also how the one half of the frame contrasts so vividly with the majestic mountains beyond. Superb lines and graphics for the eye to follow. This must have been a great adventure, a memorable one in your life. Well captured.

I like your images and this one is superb. The depth of the field is excellent as well as the light management. This is the proof that the photographer makes the photo not the camera itself. Thank you very much. Regards,
