This is one of the villages on the way to Mt. Everest Base Camp. I'm not sure what the population of Dingboche is, but it's less than 100 (not including yaks). It's a very harsh evironment, as can be seen from the photo. The elevation is about 4000m, which is too high for trees to grow. The houses are made of stone (the one thing which is in almost unlimited supply) and most of the time they don't use mortar or cement, so the wind can come through, making the nights pretty cold. The animals walking by are yaks, which are used to carry goods up and down the trails. There are no roads, only paths, so these yaks are the trucks of the Himalaya.
Shot on Fuji Velvia and scanned at 2000 x 3000 lines.

I really like this shot. Fantastic scenery, great colors, and good levels. A good amount of detail in the rocks and the mountain, and the slightly foggy/ washed out effect for the background really helps in convey the distance, and the grandeur of the peak.
Nicely done Alvin;

It is nice to see the landscape from the subcontinent that I was born in ....
But I did found Nepal way too over commercialized for my taste ... but I still love the landscape though I think that many details have been blown out in the over exposure
tfs ... cheers .... sarju

Nice one, Alvin, this really gives the atmosphere of the place. Nice framing and POV to incorporate the mountain together with the buildings that fit so well into the landscape. It looks like a tough place to scratch out a living. Regards, Ken.

Good PoV to combine daily life, traditional housing and majestuous mountains all well framed in a vertical and deep way. We can feel the elevation from the sky colors. I like this one !
Have a nice day,

A well composed shot with various layers of interest and good colour flow. The portrait format really works well here, as the eye moves upward in the frame to view different subjects of interest. Amazing clarity for a scanned shot. I think the result here is better than a higher contrast shot because the colours do not seem oversaturated, but very natural. Well captured.

I like the layered form of this image - the Yaks add interest and a good note too :)

Hello Alvin, I see you are heading back to the archives for this one. This is a wonderful mountain scene and I like the yaks and their pens in the foreground. Possibly a little fill flash on the beasts would give us a bit more detail.

An impressive high-altitude photo from your trek, Alvin. The vertical format was a logical choice to fit in all the telling high-altitude detail into this shot, and you build a good depth starting with the yaks and stone structures in front, and reaching all the way back to the peak. Great quality you pulled from your scan, and as usual the Velvia colors look very true to the real thing (for all I know, never been in the Mt Everest area myself ;). Well done.

I found this an impressive picture, very interesting place, the only way to see it is through your post here in TE, no way that i can go there and see it by my self. You got an excellent composition. Thank you for your note. and TFS.

Hi Alvin -breathtaking mountain scenery and superb image quality which puts most digital outputs to shame, the yaks add special appeal.
