This is a quick grab shot of an ordinary candid street photography from Durbar Square, Bhaktapur when the woman walked pass the view finder, the moment that I wanted a suitable subject to fit the setting while allowing some dark negative space ahead of the path.
The traditional Newari woodwork - a form of art and the essence of Nepal, is what interested me here. and part of the fun and excitement in photography is capturing human subject off guard when the subject's eyes are not on the camera but on her current task...

Joli portrait dressé ressortant magnifiquement sur l'arrière-plan.
Les couleurs font ressortir joliment l'ensemble.
Très belle réalisation.

Your candid has certainly worked. The framing is beautiful, and so hard to achieve in this situation: as you say, the negative space is so important. But it's the lady's expression that really gives the photograph life: although she's not looking at you, she seems aware that she is being photographed, and is not too pleased about it! Do you, like me, struggle to get the nerve to photograph strangers in the street? I do it, but still find it difficult...

In the frame of your camera but outside the frame of the door!
The dark area enhances the red hues of her cloth, and we can see the scultures behind her face.
A good live portrait!

This is a wonderful portrait. The red and black are stunning and you have still retained the delicate patterns on the woodwork. The off-centre positioning and the black space really appeals to me. Super work.
Kind Regards, Ann

the way of setting up, anticipating and creating the photo described in your note must be great fun. The result you achieved here is marvellous. The lady is perfectly dressed for this composition and is positioned perfectly against the magnificent frame of the gate. Her expression is intense and interesting enhancing the visual impact of the minimal and skillful composition and is juxtaposed superbly with the dense mystery and fascination of the dark square. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a lovely weekend,

A very good portrait, to be a candid street shot. Her red colours against the black background is very good and she is also nicely balanced by some small red detail in the frame above her. Perfect!

You're capturing well this scene by a good composition and excellent tone/clarity, so it's interesting and impressive to see the frame with a good design and a woman who wears red clothes/shawl. Abd, the square black at right side is making good contrast with red and is tightening the whole.

Beautifully balanced and well conceived Abmdsudi - The red clothing is the perfect counterpoint to the black space. I love the texture and fine details on the woodwork. Top class work. Warm regards rosemary

a very curious expression, very nice black frame in to the frame, I like the game frames, here you have been really good to crop the image, always very sharp, the colors are beautiful and natural, red contrasts very well with the rest of the shades...
have a good WE...

Wow! Love the composition! Most would put this beautiful lady in the middle of the frame but your placement is much better and effective. Great lighting and dof with sharp details. Wonderful colors. Well done, tfs.

This is a very impressive portrait, especially considering that you describe it as a "quick grab". You obviously planned this very carefully, having found a perfect place for the right person passing by. Her red clothes suit the dark background perfectly and by some luck she turned her face towards you (or towards some point just beside you). The light and sharpness is absolutely perfect and you also included a fine piece of Newar woodwork.

Un portrait nature pris sur le vif, sa couleur rouge ressort des détails en arrière plan tout en laissant le côté sombre, belle réalisation

Very good candid shot in beautiful colours and detail. Interesting expression on her face, perhaps curiosity or maybe anticipation, but certainly concern in some form. Well done.

nice the portait of the woman in red as is placed perfect in the frame and contrast perfect with the dark backdrop.
I like the excellent light and colour management as the clarity and the sharpness of the image.A good work.

un perfetto colpo d'occhio e una grande bravura nel scegliere la migliore posizione del soggetto all'interno dell'inquadratura.
Rosso che ben risalta e che si lega al nero perfettamente,

sometimes pictures taken casualy without any preparation are the best,as you captures really unique moment you would have missed when you had to prepared to the shot. This is excellent example of it.Really great capture of the woman. Her red coat stands out so well against the dark background.Nicely done!

All the more I love your work.
Excellent portrait of this lady.
I love the darker shades.
When I ask that photo, he found someone to debase them, and say there is too dark.
For my taste, these are great works, how to have them on this page your TE.

Great shot of the Newari Artwork and the portrait of the lady.I love Bhaktapur for its old culture and its umpteen number of temples and houses made of terracotta stuff.Very well done.TFS.

Another spotted portrait during the everyday routine. Very artistic, nice graphical composition.
mirosu (10942) 2012-11-12 5:12
A great use of light & colors. The clarity and deep depth of field is perfect. A well presented crop allows eyes to remain fixed on the lady. This is a really beautiful interaction, and is a good example of portrait mode. The red coat and black color in the background also lends a lovely hue to the scene. Well done.

Hi, my noble friend Ali
Portrait of a beautiful and attractive display. Exposure and attractive colors.
My friend, I'm sorry I wanted to ask your opinion about the posts before me (portrait of man Turkmen) Tell your comment. Your opinion is very important to me.
siolaw (37644) 2012-11-14 19:43
Nepalese houses provide excellent graphics and traditional settings for portrait backgrounds... here we have a pleasant compo with red colour popping out on the dark BG. She seems a bit worried, but that gives its character to the take.
clic (13240) 2012-11-15 12:35
I can't resist to this fabulous candid street shot expressing some kind of concern on behalf of lady that acts as a strong eye-catcher, so artistically located off-center!
nikkitta (11110) 2012-11-15 15:34
Beautiful and creative way to capture the woman against the incredible carved wooden frame where all the design are quite different
Like the way you managed colors, wait for the woman to be in the right position and also the contras of red between dress & scarf and the God under the door
Always a pleasure to watch your post
Greetings and TFS
Angshu (53976) 2012-11-29 2:38
Hope you're doing good!
A fine example of effective street photographty, where I marvel at the richly decorated wooden doorway which creates a fine BG to the lady. And the other thing which works well is the dark space - negative space as you call it...absolutely essential in this shot because our attention stands strongly on the subject & the wooden carvings only.
Best Regards my friend
