Photographer’s Note
The Thorung La Pass of 5416 meters, (about 17000 feet), is one of the highest passes in the world, and is the final big push as you go around the Annapurna Circuit. It is 1000 meters of elevation gain in one day, with then a 1600 meter descent that same day. And this is all starting at an elevation of about 4400 meters, or 14000 feet. Getting a breath is a challenge, even after gradually acclimatizing for many days of treking. That being said, most people usually make it, although it is always a hurdle that looms large during the week or so of the approach.
This photo was taken early in the day after about an hour's hard work....but with still quite a few more to go. The building is the upper camp. Some use this as a final launching pad, but most use the lower camp which is an hour or so below.

Hi Steve,
High altitude stuff is not for this guy - good on you for taking on this challenge. And a very nice shot to show for it - fresh snow and all. Good work and TFS. Gerald

Hi Steve
Looking at your picture I wish I could be there right now, because where I live, Malaysia, it is very humid and hot at the moment due to some extend El Nino. Your shot has a great DOF, nice variation of snow in contrast to the blue sky. Well done
Best regards
Urs

Hello my dear Steve
What a marvelous nature photo !
Good framing, color management and clear and keen focus as usual. Blue sky and white snow for contrast is very very attractive.
Thanks for sharing and best regards,
Have a nice weekend !

Hi Steve,
I like the composition and detail in this shot - the mountains in the background, the low buildings and the trekkers setting out in the fresh snow. It looks like early morning. Am I right? Makes me want to be there too.
best wishes, Joan
