these fish were gathering next to a very small island with a buddhist temple on it. they probably learnt that the chances of being caught were significantly lower here, since buddhists are not supposed to kill.

Ok shot, but it looks like a prime candidate for a polarizer, which would cut reflection on the lake. This would both reduce distracting glare off the distant water and allow you to see the foreground fish more clearly. I'd also crop out the land in the distance. It's a more bold composition with just the texture of the water.

I agree on the pol filter, but I wouldn't crop away anything. It's a good idea, but I don't find it very interesting for a long time. But you should chase this idea and do it with other motives as well!
