Photographer’s Note
Tansen is a beautiful town in the Palpa region of Nepal. Nice cool climate at 1370m in the hills, we walked to the temple from Nanglo West Restaurant after a delicious meal. I was overwhelmed by the carvings at this temple, really a must for a visitor to Nepal on the way from Lumbini to Pokhara.
This carved wooden statue belongs to Vishnu - The Preserver of the Hindu Trinity. And Life is actually getting preserved... a look at the home of wasps in the centre of the statue.
Amar Narayan - Temple of Lord Vishnu
Built in 1807AD by Amar Singh Thapa, the first governor of Palpa, the temple is a masterpiece of Nepali culture in the pagoda style with brass plate, gold roof and erotic wooden carving. The temple is surrounded by a one metre stone wall, known locally as the Great Wall of Palpa. Devotees chant holy Bhajan recitals in chorus every morning and evening.
