Photographer’s Note

Taken in the small village of Pisang, as we were leaving for that day of treking further up the trail....usually a day of about 8 hours. This is our 6th day in, and the elevation is getting up there...maybe 3,000 meters or so. The temperatures are starting to drop as you can see also by this little guy's clothes. Most of the children here seem to have this "weather-beaten" looking cheeks, and I don't believe it's a serious problem, although this young fella has it perhaps more then most.

Heartbreaking shot. The harsh, brilliant light and centering of the child with handmade tool and dry-stacked rocks speaks to a hard life. Thank you, Judy

this is a splendid portrait!The small boy is so cute with his shy expression and his hammer in the hands!The red is superbly cstanding out the grey colours of the stones!I just think it would be still better if the child was a little bit decentered on the right,but never mind,this also superb like this!

This time not a big smile but a quite sad or at least serious look. Fine colours and the hammer brings a special unexpected element. I hope the cheeks will heal nicely...
