This is a shot from the trail on the way to Mount Everest Base Camp. The altitude here is about 3900m, and at this height those steps are very difficult to climb (when people say Nepal is breath-taking, they're not just talking about the view!). The mountain in the background is called Thamserku, with a height of 6,808m. The clouds you see in shot are a common occurence there. Most days started totally clear, but as the warm air from lower altitudes rises up the valleys, it starts to form clouds. Between about 10:00 and 2:00 the cloud thickens and obscures the mountains.
This was scanned from Fuji Velvia.

Alvin this is an outstanding photo. I love the contrast between the climb up on the left and the destination on the upper right. Amazing place and wonderful capture! Thanks for sharing the small glimpse of this beautiful hike!

Hi Alvin. You couldnít have been shooting on a better medium for this trip than Velvia. The composition is good but maybe I'd push the sharpness up. Good shot Alvin.

Wow, you have seen some amazing parts of this world. This photo is stunning with the view of the stairs to the left and the jagged white peak to the right. Amazing colours and sharpness considering it was scanned. As always a stunning composition. Well done, Alvin!

Well done, Alvin--I like how the stairs emphasize the idea of climbing, which complements the mountain. Nice composition that makes the stairs lead to the sky. Ideally the foreground would be sharper but that's really minor here. Good stuff! Regards, Ken.

A really great POV with the mountain on the right side and the people on the left.
The contrast between the snowy mountain and the vegetation is also great.

Wonderful alpine scenery, with a good inclusion of the hikers, to add scale & context. Superb color & sharpness. Tfs!

A delight of a compo having this snow capped cold giant rise over the warm descending diagonal, I get the impression the poeple are trying to reach some kind of nirvana above the clouds, superb. How high did you get ?
Have a nice day,

Free Bird! - sorry, - great title, very apt.
I like the POV, the people might have been in better 'poses' and the bush detracts a little but the rest is pure bliss - TFS :)

Hi Alvin -wow, supermajestic and breathless I cannot imagine tackling those steep steps at that altitude, heaven may indeed be closer thanks to pulmonary edema.

Hi Alvin. I was instinctively trying to match this summit to a Rocky Mountain peak, until I noticed we are back to Nepal with this one ;) Good photo that showcases the unique scenery and also tells a nice story about trekking in this area. Fine colors and nice lighting.

Cool shot Alvin!
Great DOF with the forground being out of focus, giving the image a 3D like quality to it. Not bad for a scanned image at all.
Only suggestion I have is in regards to the people in the shot, they're neither close enough to make out faces, nor far enough so as they can easily be overlooked (not noticable)... but that's just my opinion on an otherwise awesome shot Alvin!

This is a nice, high contrast image with great colour. I love the mountain in the background, it works as a great backdrop and adds great depth and impact too. The overall colours are very vibrant, again, adding impact. A great shot.

Hi Alvin, this is indeed breathtaking! and from my desk I can say that simply because itís so beautiful, and not exhausting. I can understand that itís very difficult. I bike a lot, and climbing is hard for me, but the reward is always so big, when youíre up high and can look down.
Beautifully composed as well.
