Yak posing as a supermodel on this fantastic clear morning...and although it looks as a perfect mountain heaven, I did have problems with breathing at this altitude (4800 metres)...
Another clear morning view from the beautiful village Gokyo of the third of sacred Gokyo lakes, Dudh Pokhari.
Gokyo is a small hamlet of stone houses and stone walled pastures which nestles on the lateral morraine of the Ngozumba Glacier. Almost all buildings are guest houses for trekkers. The people who live here in the season are leaving to other (lower) villages like Namche Bazar in the off season. Gokyo village is lying on an altitude of roughly 4800 meter, located on the banks of the third Gokyo Lake (Dudh Pokhari).
A while ago I presented you with the view of the first Gokyo lake in the Gokyo valley.
On the trail from Machhermo to Gokyo we passed the first three lakes of the Gokyo valley. This one, the third, is very quite large. It lies in the altitude 4800 metres above sea level and is called Dudh Pokhari. The Gokyo village actually lies on the shore of this lake.
All the lakes have amazing turquoise colour. These lakes are the world’s highest freshwater lake system comprising six main lakes, but there are more of them in total. The Gokyo lake system is spread over an area of 196.2 ha lying between 4,600 and 5,100 m. The wetland lies on the head of the Dudh Kosi river, which descends from Cho Oyu.
The Gokyo Lakes are considered sacred by both Hindus and Buddhists.

I am not sure what impresses me most: the spectacular mountain panorama or the fantastic animals. They are indeed so huge and unique.
It would be probably more interesting to get a closer shot if it but I would be afraid to try...
Excellent work as usual,

A perfect postcard of Nepal! The yak, the village and the lake, and, of course, the nice mountains... Thank you for sharing this kind of beautiful picture.

Zdravo Ivana. Perfect morning- perfect photo.Crisp like the morning. Lovely light that creates a dramatic contrast with the rocky outcrops which are partially in the shadows. Captivating colours. Pozdrav. Klaudio.

beautiful scenery, mountains, human village
A good second place, too dark, not very clearly a first.

The light is fantastic as the place. Sharpness and colors are excellent as well as the POV. I usually do not comment the photos without exit, but this I could not resist. I understand the discomfort of the height because I try.

wow, an impressive moutainscape! The blue of the sky is really impressive. And the Yak's a nice addition to the frame.

Your photos have all the charm of these far out and extreme places... I could not help but open this one: so poignant and evocative. Have you seen the old film "Shangrilla"? This place really seem to be that!
You make me envious! (:-)

It's a spectacular shot in thin clean air we've got here, worth the trek and thks for sharing with us. The subltle light on the mountains really make this image
look so nice, a real breathtaking scenery with the snow peaked brilliant dominating the frame with added display of awesome colours!. Lovely to see the lake turns slight turquoise in colour and the yaks is an excellent inclusion rendering a good sense of depth. An impressive mountainsacpe of course, a great effort indeed. Congrats

Well in spite of having trouble breathing, you had no trouble capturing this scene perfectly. The sharpness is impeccable, your excellent light management gives amazing clarity of the colors. The framing is very effective as well, with the snow dusting making the mountains stand out against that sky. Early morning gives some nice reflections and of course that Yak makes a fine focal point.
Wishing you health, love & joy (HLJ), Pat

I am well surprised by the sharpness and clarity of your shot; it is taken at a high altitude. The low sun sculpts well the mountain in the background, and the yak adds a good touch.
Keep on breathing!

Very Nepali image, with the thin air of the high altitude.
I wish I can go back to Nepal sooner or later
