Birganj is another entry point located in southern Nepal. It lies 283 km of the capital Kathmandu and 202 Km from Patna in Bihar by jeep. Here I'm on a horse cart crossing the border, the driver is whipping the animal so that he goes faster, he wears strange clothes..
In addition to Nepali, several other languages are spoken in the town including Bhojpuri, Hindi, Maithili, Nepali Bhasa and Marwari. The streets are dusty and dirty, the mosquitoes are relentless.

I entered Nepal this way, also by horse-cart, but I think Birganj has changed a lot in 41 years. I only remember staying in possibly the worst hotel I've ever seen.
This is definitely an original POV, which makes the ugly town look a lot more exciting.

This time you show us a busy street scene in Nepal. Bicycles, tricycles, horse carriage.....from the angle, you must be sitting on the horse carriage when you took this picture.

I like the POV here.specially taken the horse in the foreground, thats make feel that i'm in the cart.Great escape from over-exposing as you got bright light from sky. A nice shot of daily life.
Thanks for sharing.

Hi Miguel ,
A very nice capture of the street scene in Birganj. Your POV from the horse cart and with the bicycles approaching from the opposite direction gives the whole scene a certain dynamism. This perspective also gives a great view of daily life in this fascinating place.

What we see in this picture, no car, buggy or bike ride, people, it's clean air and clean living environment

Enjoyable ride, I believe. You are taking the viewer along with you with your pov. A beautiful street scene with light vehicles and pedestrians.
Great clarity and colours.

EXCELLENT point of view! I don't know who said it, but it is true: "A good foto shows you a place; a great foto takes you there." You have taken me to Birganj! Thank you!

nice the view of this section of the city from this advantage point, sitting in the moving hire carriage.I like the scene of the daily life of the city with a lot of cyclists to move to the other direction of the road.

Good morning Miguel,
You bring here the point-of-view of the carriage-
waggoner, that's how he spend his lifetime making a living.
Nice included the town on its daily-life. Details well collected.

Clever use of the man's arm and riding crop as lead in lines in this well composed shot. Also a good decisive moment as composing such a shot in a moving vehicle is not easy. Good colour, sharpness and saturation. The motion blur of the horse's head is superb and animates the shot. The people on bikes makes fine secondary focal points. Tfs!

A fascinating view from the 'safety' of the horse-drawn carriage. I like the idea that we are seeing what you saw, and, the horse makes a most effective, unusual lead into the shot.
The busy streets remind me of my journey through Pakistan. The streets were always teeming with people!
There are so many details to absorb and we really feel to have been given a flavour of this city.
(The details of the mosquitoes was one we couldn't pick up from the photograph! I hope you had plenty of insect repellent!)
Have a great day,

this photo is very attractive and interesting because it not only shows us a scene from a busy street in Birganj, but really puts us on the street and into the traffic. There's great perspective and depth and you've rendered the scene with great clarity, we get the feeling of riding on the cart with remarkable accuracy. The sense of movement is enhanced by so many elements and is fascinating. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a great evening,

A great street scene from southern Nepal. That was a very fine looking horse that was taking you to places. Now, am I detecting a pattern in this chaotic traffic, do the drive on the left side?
jmdias (48503) 2013-10-16 16:26
this is a curious POV. nice details of the daily life in the place, many things to see and despite the image isn't so beautiful it has a marvelous local mood.
NorthernLight (1181) 2013-10-24 7:27
cleverly photographed. The one who looks at the picture thinks that he himself would be the passenger. So we travel in a horse-drawn cart through a street scene in Birganj/Nepal and experience that is quite different from what we know of european cities.
An unusual and beautiful picture from a different world. Beautifully captured!
Best regards from Sweden
