Photographer’s Note
A short series of pictures taken around the stupa at Swayambhunath on an early spring holiday to India and Nepal in 2004.
Some more information from Wikipedea:
Swayambhunath, is among the oldest religious sites in Nepal. According to the Gopālarājavaṃśāvalī Swayambhunath was founded by the great-grandfather of King Mānadeva (464-505 CE), King Vṛsadeva, about the beginning of the 5th century CE. This seems to be confirmed by a damaged stone inscription found at the site, which indicates that King Mānadeva ordered work done in 640 CE.
However, Emperor Ashoka is said to have visited the site in the third century BCE and built a temple on the hill which was later destroyed. Legend has it that the Buddha himself visited Swayambhunath and gave teachings there two hundred years earlier.[3]
Although the site is considered Buddhist, the place is revered by both Buddhists and Hindus. Numerous Hindu kings are known to have paid their homage to the temple, including Pratap Malla, the powerful king of Kantipur, who is responsible for the construction of the eastern stairway in the 17th century.
Thanks to saikotic for pointing out my mistake that this is a picture of the stupa at Swayambhunath and not Boudhanath. Apologies for any confusion caused.

Bonjour Stephen

Cordialement

Hi Stephen
Wonderful colour, with superb repetition of the prayer flags, in this marvellous daily life scene. Some slight oe on the highlights of the stupa at right, but nothing too serious. Good sharpness & pov. Tfs!

Hello Stephen. The photo is exemplary. The buildings, the people and the multicolored flags result in a successful combination. Worth seeing and beautifully. Best regards, Wolfgang.

Hi Stephen,
An odd combination of all flags, a person struggling with a heavy load and that different architecture (and a good note). Fine colours and clarity!

Hello Stephen,
I like this contrast of the grey and white in the front to the colours on the building and flags behind. Complex light situation well solved and good details.

Hi Stephen,
Another wonderful capture of this unique architecture of Nepal.
Wonderful details to the lovely temple design. Great clarity to the yellow temple that goes so well with the deep blue sky.
The many prayer flags flapping in the wind give a nice sense of motion to this lovely image.
Regards, Tom
