This is the Mandal drum shop, with a hired worker in the back, landlord's son in the middle, and Bishwas on the right side. Bishwas's mother, a widow, feeds, clothes and sends her children to school from the meager earnings of this tiny shop (actually a walled off unused entry way). Every single step of making the drum is handmade. It is time consuming and hard work to make the drums. It is the responsibility of all male children in Nepal and India, to take care of their parents in their old age. Hopefully Bishwas will suceed through education to live a better life. His mother will then reap the benefits of her sacrifices and hard work.
