Photographer’s Note
Snapshot / candid photo.
I did not want to publish the photo necessarily, because it appears confusing something. Now I show it nevertheless.
PHOTO AND TEXT. Two boys lean together and look apparently thoughtful into the distance. Behind the curtain the head of a woman is visible. But there are different picture elements, which do not have connection. Without text the meaning of the photo cannot be understood.
The half hidden woman looks prying to me, while the two boys looked to a drunk roaring man. They will think probably as deeply this man has fallen. This is the simple story.
Not each photo explains itself. The picture proves that a TEXT can be very important. Without text a photo can be complete misunderstood.

Hi:)
B&W is a good choice, the explanation note is helpful, without it one might have thought boys are in some deeper relationship, just dreaming...
I really like it,
Have a good day,
G.

Hi, Wolfgang.
I like this tender scene and the person in the backround.
Beautiful moment.
But pitty for the croped feeds...
Best regards. Grazyna.

Guten Morgen, Wolfgang!

Hi Wolfgang!
Good point! A good note always helps explain the story behind the photo.
Very nice B/W. I like the way the two boys stand out with the light focusing on them!

hi,
yes you're absolutely right, in the absence of text no one can ever know what's going on. Clear capture of the daily life for these three. Good B&W mode neat & clean. TFS

Hi Wolfgang!
I completely agree, every kind of photo, both one that tells a story and an artistic one, needs an explanation of the artist to perfectly understand what he want communicate.
But the fact remains that this photo is also visually wonderful!

I wonder if the text is really necessary... This photo speaks to me itself. Without the text it gives me wider spectrum of meaning,

Hi Wolfgang,
Our impression may be other without the note, indeed. The photo and the note form an important unit at this photo. The composition of the photo is superb, effective choice the B&W and the details are suggestive. Splendid daily life shot. Tfs! Have a nice day!

Hello Wolfgang,
I fully agree with you: without a Note (text explanation) a photo can often be misunderstood.
I like this photo. I can't decide which of the two variants (b&w and colour) I would prefer. I like both equally. I always prefer a coloured version to B&w, but this is another exception.. when you want to emphasize an idea rather than place an accent on the surroundings.
Good shot but rather gloomy.....
Kind regards,
Elena

Hallo Wolfgang,

Hi Wolfgang,
Yes, often text is important and probably more with portrait.
Good choice of B&W composition.

Hi Wolfgang!
Beautiful and interesting shot! Your notes are helpful, and do add another dimension as we look at this photo. It also can stand alone I think. Lovely work! Cheers,

hello Wolfgang,
I agree that some photos need a text to explain them. But I feel that this one could stand on its own anyway. It is the sort og photo that encourages the imagineation....what are these boys looking at? and the woman...? Without your note it would be egnigmatic which is no bad thing. So either way you winn, note or no note you have an interesting image. Works well in black and white.

Bev

hi Wolfgang
I cannot agree more. You have proven a great point here about a photo and notes. It is the photographer's job to present and tell a good story through a photo. Only he knows what he has seen.
I like your B&W presentation. The peeking woman is a typical behavior in most of Asian countries. Hiding behind and shy to show the face. It had been ancient tradition that women stayed indoor and would not be shown when visitors come.
You have a good shot here and feet crop could be avoided. I would choose the color :)
A good post from Nepal.

Hi Wolfgang. Nice presentation in b&w although the color one is nice too. Pictures don't have to be obvious I think; sometimes a story has to be told and you told well. Great expressions on those faces. Good job. Regards. Paulo

Greetings Wolfgang!
Thanks for stopping by my gallery :)
This is a lovely image. You've captured beautiful lighting, interesting facial expressions, and a 'moment' with the woman peeking through the curtain. At first it bothered me that the boys' feet were cut off in the shot, but in looking at it further I think it's OK - just serves to move the eye and focus up to the boys' faces and then back to the woman's partially hidden face.
As for showing versus telling, I see the use in both. It just depends what you want to accomplish as an artist and the relationship you want your viewers to have with your images. If you want the viewer to imagine her own story when looking at your work, then don't tell your story - leave it up to the viewer's creativity and allow her to interact with your photo however she is moved to do so. If 'the truth' or 'the actual story' is important to you, then sure, tell us what happened. But just be aware that in doing so you've taken control of the interaction between the viewer and the photo, and you're leaving less room for people to find their own meaning in it. Example: Have you ever been in an interesting place, people-watching with a friend, and played a game where you make up stories about the people in your field of vision? It's fun!
That said, I tell the story too sometimes, so I'm not saying I think it's wrong or bad to do that. I just think it's useful to understand the ramifications.
Congratulations on a well composed, well-executed shot. And thanks for sparking good conversation about the topic of story.
Best Regards,
Rachel

Very nice one, Wolfgang. The setting, details, usual quality, but what sets it apart is the dynamic of the people - I mean the parallellism between the 2 guys and the girl behind the curtain. There is tension, indeed a story. And it is best left to our imagination.
my compliments,

Hi Wolfgang!
I like it. You caught a very natural behaviour and attitude of friendship, with a very good timing, as they do not notice your presence. I also prefer the B&W but the color version is interesting as well, with the opposition between blue and red. Well done.

I have to say, this would make even Sebastiao Salgado proud if he had taken this shot - excellent street capture, lyrical, the subjects' expression, positioning and eyes make one fabricate all sorts of imagined stories to go with the picture.
