Wondering what she was pondering about who seemed to be peering into infinity....
Just an ordinary everyday street people when she stole my attention and easily being one of most colourful characters amongst the local women in the hustle & bustle of Thamel district, Kathmandu.
Nepal is a veritable mosaic of different ethnic groups whose languages, culture and religion have over the centuries penetrated and settled the hills and valleys from the north, south, east and west. Despite this diversity, Nepal has a tradition of harmony and in this land of ethnic elements as varied as its landscape, the principles of integration have been accepted since ancient times.
The Newaris who are predominantly Hindu being the dominant ethnic group with the greatest concentration can be found in Kathmandu Valley, who descent from both Tibeto-Burman and Indo Aryan speaking people. Traditionally a highly literate, Newari art and architecture tend to be the most visible part of Nepalese civilization.

Another beautiful and remarkable portrait, and it is impossible to judge whether the elderly woman was aware of your presence. In case she was, she clearly didn't feel that her integrity was threatened by your camera. She really gives the impression of peering into infinity, undisturbed by the crowds and noise surrounding her in the street. The warm tones of the light give an increased intensity to the red blanket that surrounds her face so beautifully.

Your talent for taking the everyday people you see and making them into the most intriguing portraits is inspiring, especially as I want to learn about portraiture, especially candid work like this. This is a fantastic shot, full of life and character, and like you I also wish to know what she ponders, her mind seems busy and it express well in her face.
Thanks as always

a wonderful intimate portrait, with fine perspective and effectively enclosed in a tight vertical frame. I love the play of light and the fine sharpness you achieved with your long lens. The lady's face is marvelously framed by the colours, textures and shadows, they all seem to add something to her calm but intriguing expression. Her eyes are very attractive, she seems to be looking inside her. Exquisite work, congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a great week,

the red blanket provides a colourful and effective frame for the grey haired lady, there is a rather pensive look upon her face that would suggest that she is unaware of your presence.
The soft side light helps to emphasise her features in a sympathetically presented portrait.
Best regards Les.

Wonderful portrait with your stamp on it. The thoughtful expression perfectly captured with the best of sharpness and details. The bright red of her dress makes the image really eye catching. Great camera work and thanks for sharing it.
have a great new week ahead.

Another of your beautiful close-up portraits. The expression suggests abstraction, and I believe she was not aware of you or your camera. Your long lens allows you to capture these powerful candid moments very well. There’s a slight snobbishness among many street photographers about shooting with a longer lens – it isn’t seen as being hard core enough! If you're not on a really wide angle and poking your Leica up their nose, you're not really doing the business. You prove that there are other approaches...

You have the touch, Abmdsudi, and told you already - one has to know how to take portraits, and you have it.
Red coat cover all pic. sides, "framing" the face, with a mild and content expression.
Fine taken photo.

Un regard pensif, bien capturer, le cadrage serré, le jeu ombre et les couleurs qui entoure son joli visage, très beau portrait

excellent the portrait of the old lady as looks so natural and alive.
I like the fascinating light and colour management of the street portrait, with the tight frame to make it even more effective.
macjake (52888) 2014-09-16 11:03
I see you shot this one at 180mm focal length, good idea I suppose, as you don't want to get in her face and get her mad :)
the choice of cropping is effective too, it immediately does away with any annoying subject off to the sides or around her.
we can just sit here and enjoy the face as is.
and you're right, she does appear to be in a very focused thought.
well captured as usual my friend
